Jumbo Villars-sur-Glâne

1991 - 1995 · Suisse, Villars-sur-Glâne · Public » Retail

This project consists of the total remodeling of a commercial center originally built in 1973, and the addition of 54,000 square feet (5,000 square meters) of commercial space and increased parking capacity. This intervention allowed for the redefinition of the building’s identity. Thus the new red cedar façade covers both the existing body and the new extension, unifying the whole. The dynamism of this thousand-foot (three-hundred-meter) façade, curving along the street, is emphasized by its horizontal composition. In contrast with this light wooden envelope, and articulated by the entrance level’s glazed façade, the downward slope of the road reveals a heavy brick-clad basement.
