Casa La Hilaria

2006 - 2007 · Uruguay, Punta del Este · Housing » Individual

Villa Hilaria is a simple holiday home. All rooms are located on the ground floor except for the master bedroom, which is upstairs. The house has two wings, the first of which contains two bedrooms, a bathroom and a complete suite. The second, perpendicular to the first, houses a single living area (living room, dining room, kitchen) which extends onto a terrace covered by a large canopy. The L-shape has made it possible to preserve two existing pine trees and give the garden a certain intimacy by protecting it from the street. The construction is as simple as the programme. Built in just five months, the house is composed of load-bearing brick walls and concrete slabs coated with lime plaster. The only distinctive feature is the eaves, which are supported by metal reinforcements concealed in the carpentry. The doors and windows are made of wood; the frames and external blinds are made of lapacho, and the rest is cedar. The architectural expression is based on the purity of the volumes, which create a strong contrast between solids and voids, the simplicity of the materials and the omnipresence of the pine trees.
