L'Îlot-du-Centre

The sloping terrain guided the volumetric and sectional design, resulting in a wide variety of apartment types.
The first two levels of the block, at ground level, feature south-facing duplex apartments with private gardens. The vast majority of the flats are organised according to a simple layout: an internal circulation loop runs around a central core, distributing the living rooms to the south and the bedrooms to the north. Special flats are available in the attic. The layout of the dual-aspect apartments is punctuated by a module comprising vertical circulation areas to the north – a spiral staircase and a lift – and bedrooms or studios to the south.

The vertical glass stairwells, positioned on the façade in the style of many buildings in Lausanne, give rhythm to the long façade on Rue Beau Séjour.
The façades are made of light-coloured concrete treated with different types of finishes and feature large bay windows for the living rooms and full-height windows with anodised aluminium sliding shutters for the bedrooms.
The buildings have been awarded the Minergie label.

L'Îlot-du-Centre

2006 - 2011 · Suisse, Lausanne · Housing » Grouped

This residential compound comprises 4 buildings with a total of 139 flats, of about 2.5 to 5.5 rooms each. The main building holds the most apartments and stands parallel to Rue Beau Séjour and respects a continuous face that the adjacent constructions maintain. Below, three smaller blocks are established around a courtyard made up of private gardens. This configuration strongly relates to the urban context in which the project lies. Moreover, this one allows the apartments adjoining the courtyard to have a view and an optimal source of natural light. A large parking lot (160 spaces) and technical rooms connect the entity of the compound. The majority of the newly built flats are distributed around a central core, allowing the scheme to be simple and efficient. Living rooms are located towards the southern side, whilst the bedrooms on the northern side. Additionally, some apartments are set in the context of the attic as well as duplex apartments with access to the garden. The buildings appear a light-colored concrete with different details and finishes; large bay windows in the living rooms and full height windows with sliding shutters in the bedrooms.
