CFF Train Maintenance Center
1995 - 1999 · Suisse, Geneva · Industry
Located in the immediate surrounding’s of Geneva’s train station, the centre consists of a building exceeding 108,000 square feet (10,000 square meters) for the maintenance of the latest reclinable train configurations, as well as a service annex. The plain architectural idiom rests on the materials own expression and reinforces the functional character of the building. The main façades (one thousand feet/three hundred meters long) are clad in oversized wood shingles and are protected by very wide eaves, which in turn contrast with the aluminum end façades, creating a certain tension when they meet at an angle. In fact, their intersection suggests a section rather than a corner, as if the different naves, sliding against each other, had no precise end; as if they could move along the tracks.
