Casa José Ignacio
This family holiday home, used continuously in summer and occasionally in winter, is located by the sea on a privileged plot on the calm beach of José Ignacio. The site slopes gently towards the sea and offers views to the west towards the sunset. On one side, to the south, is one of the access roads to the beach, which is very busy in summer. The programme is developed almost entirely on a single floor that is slightly staggered following the natural slope of the land. The house consists of a series of stone-walled pavilions, separated by courtyards and covered by a large vegetated slab. This garden roof is a powerful horizontal gesture that connects the house with the sunset on the sea horizon. Both elements define the social area of the house as a sequence of outdoor, indoor and semi-covered spaces that relate to each other, creating different conditions of use adapted to the climatic variables of the location. The large sliding windows allow the house to be enjoyed in summer as a large shaded outdoor space. The house is consolidated on the south elevation, where the service functions are located, seeking protection from the wind and the public access road to the beach. The tower on the corner defines its discreet presence in the landscape of the village of José Ignacio.
