Casa Fareña

Casa Fareña

2007 - 2008 · Uruguay, Punta del Este · Housing » Individual

Fareña is a simple holiday and weekend home. The ground floor comprises the living-dining-kitchen area and a guest suite, whilst the upper floor features the family bedrooms, a master suite and two children’s bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom and access to the terrace and the viewing platform overlooking them. The house is situated opposite the Punta del Este lighthouse square. Set on a small plot planted with nine palm trees over 70 years old, the house was built with due respect for these trees, aiming to offer a view of the lighthouse from an intimate and discreet spot, shielded from outside view. The perimeter of the plot, marked by a wall that already existed at the start of the project, also became the building’s perimeter, forming courtyards that are enclosed from the street yet open towards the interior. The ground floor, which houses the living-dining-kitchen area and a guest suite, is open and airy, its character enhanced by the contrast with the volume of the upper floor, where the bedrooms are located, which appears more solid and impenetrable. There is also a contrast in materials between the clean lines of the smooth, white walls and the irregular, rustic stone floors. The doors and windows are made of wood and the ceilings are exposed concrete.
